Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold'em follows the fairly simple rules. This is a game for two to 10 players, whose goal is to create the best possible hand of five cards using all possible combinations between the two cards you were dealt face down and five community cards revealed on the table. Here are the basics you need to know:
- . The Dealer. Cards are dealt from the position of the dealer. This position rotates in a clockwise around the table after each hand. In online poker, the software will automatically deal cards on behalf of the Dealer.
- Blinds. To start a game of Texas Hold'em, the player left of the dealer puts the small blind (which is usually half the minimum bet). The player to his left puts the big blind (equal to the minimum bet). This gets the pot started and encourages other players to place bets. Players place their bets before the cards are revealed. This is why the term "blind" ("blind" in English) is used.
- Distribution. Each player receives two cards, he is the only one who knows.
- Bet. Once all Texas Hold'em players have received their two cards, a betting round begins with the player to the left of the one who posted the Big Blind. Based on prior activity in the hand, the player can fold, check, call, bet, bet, raise and reraise respecting bids and the limits to the table. A round of betting can make several rounds if there are raises and re-raises. The round ends when all players have either passed or the last bet.
- The Flop. Next comes the flop. Three cards are dealt face up in the common area of the table. Followed by another betting round.
- The Turn. The turn refers to a fourth community card dealt face up next to the flop. Follows a third round of betting.
- River. The last community card is called the river. It is placed face up next to the turn, and starts the final round of betting.
- The Showdown. The Showdown occurs after betting concludes. The remaining players compare their five card hand created from a combination of their two cards and five community cards. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. In rare cases, two or more players have hands of equal rank, or the best possible hand consists of five community cards. In this case, they split the pot.
- The next hand. Once the pot is distributed, the Dealer button is moved one player to the left (in the direction of clockwise around the table) and the players left the new Dealer put the blinds. The cards are then dealt and a new hand of Texas Hold'em begins.
